Orange ya glad it's Halloween?!

{Earrings: Kate Spade | Ring: Sabine via Piperlime | Nail Polish: Bazooka by Essie | Blazer: River Island | Necklace: Stella&Dot | Flats: Seychelles | Clutch: BCBG MaxAzria}

Any points for a cheesy post title? Eh.... eh? Orange is one of my favorite colors.  In fact, when I was younger, I wore at least one accessory or piece of clothing that was orange every day. I had an orange watch, orange backpack, orange shoes (yes, I know, super cool).  A wonderfully wonderful thing about Fall and Halloween is that orange is in season and provides a perfect excuse to wear more orange that usual, without reverting back to my gawky orange-covered past self. All of these orange-cessories are bold yet simple enough that they could all even be worn together with a simple white button down and dark skinny jeans.

Yikes- has anyone counted how many times I have said "orange" in this post?

When grown-ups play dress up

 {a rainbow, a pot of gold, and a leprechaun, we won many a costume contest with this one!

Halloween is almost here! I can't believe it. Where does the time go? Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because I love love love to make my own costumes. Not to get too personal (sorry guys!), but here are some photos my boyfriend's and my Halloween costumes the past few years. No matter what you Halloween preferences - store bought, home-made, glittery fairy, or gore galore - I hope you love what you wear and rock it.

Sorry for the poor quality of some of the photos, they were all taken with a regular point-and-shoot.

Fall "To Dos"

 {Photo courtesy of Jay Sharron

Yes, I am fully aware that this is a post that everyone does, but I think it's interesting to see everyone's different goals for fall. With the weather in Southern California FINALLY changing, I'm FINALLY inspired to create my own "Fall Must Do List." It's not something I have really done before, but it got me excited about things I would have overlooked, so if you are bored one day, you should make your own list too!

My List:
  1. Write down and learn my family's Thanksgiving recipes
  2. Organize my insanely overstocked costume box (I was in a sorority in college, we had a lot of themed parties)
  3. Make some kind of pumpkin flavored goodness
  4. Exercise? (This has been a "to-do" for a very long time, so I figured if you all saw it too... I would feel more obligated. Doubtful.)
  5.  Call my grandparents more
  6.  Create a unique Thanksgiving appetizer, rather than (or rather, in addition to!) my family's traditional cheese plate, baked brie, deviled eggs, and shrimp cocktail
  7. Go on a date with my boyfriend to a new, hole-in-the-wall type place that might become our new fav
  8. Check off at least 3 of the movies on my boyfriend's "I can't believe you haven't seen that" movie list
  9. Attempt to make a sugar-free pie for my dad
  10.  Have a game night
These "goals" may not be groundbreaking, but I promise you they will lead to a fun fall! (Minus #4, obviously.)

Not your average grilled cheese...

I was craving a grilled cheese sandwich when I got home from work the other day, but didn't want a traditional cheddar and ham.  Enter... the apple-cheddar-bacon-grilled-wich!  The flavors went really well together and this will definitely stay in my arsenal of yumminess.  I used white cheddar (as it is my boyfriend's fav) and granny smith apples because it's tartness really complimented the sweet and saltiness of the bacon.  If you don't like mayonnaise, butter works just as well.

Enjoy!

Pink Ladies

{Skirt: Coincidence and Change via Urban Outfitters | Top: Love on a Hanger via Marshalls (similar here) | Shoes: libby. edelman | Purse: Vintage... from mom, per usual | Necklace: Forever 21 | Bracelets: F21 and souvenirs from a recent trip to China | Heart Ring: Vintage}

It's back to being hot and sunny here in SoCal and all I want is for fall to come!  So I'm using these (hopefully) last few days to go barelegged and jacket-less.  I fell in love with this skirt when I saw it, it has the perfect amount of 50's cut and modern style.   My friend said it reminded her of the Pink Ladies from Grease, which is fine by me!  I didn't want to just go with a black purse, so as always, I opted for a pop of color.

On another note- I can't believe how close we are to Halloween already! I've given a lot of thought to my costume and am already in preparation-mode. Over the past few years I've been making my own costumes and I will be sure to share the closer we are to the spOOky holiday!

Oktoberfest

I absolutely love German soft pretzels.  The soft pretzels we have here in the US are very different, still delicious, but are not even close to what you would get in a tent at the real Oktoberfest.  Pretzel styles and tastes in Germany are also somewhat regional, they taste a little bit different in each town you go to.  My family claims to come from the town with the best pretzels in Germany (go figure), but they may be right... they are so yummy!  It is a tradition to have a big pretzel with a liter of beer at Oktoberfest in Munich, so with it being October, I decided to try my hand at a homemade batch of my own!

Interesting fact: what makes German pretzels so different? They are actually made with lye, yes, LYE. It's what gives the pretzels that perfectly dark brown crispy crust while keeping the inside soft and delicious. Food grade lye is pretty hard to find, so I went with a baking soda method. It does a good job and produces scrumptious pretzels, but it won't give you the traditional pretzel that I was craving.

"Read more" for the recipe! Happy Thursday lovies!

{Blazer: Willow + Clay via Marshalls (similar here) | Tee: Frenchi via Nordstroms | Shorts: just ginger via Marshalls (similar here) | Shoes: Steve Madden (similar here) | Purse: Vintage}

This weekend I went to a great event in downtown LA called "A Current Affair."  It is a showcase of the top vintage clothing shops in the area.  There were some amazing shoes, unfortunately all the shoes are always too small!  There was ever kind of vintage style, from western to formal.  Purses and dresses galore!  I only came away with a gorgeously perfect sterling silver and aqua bracelet but my boyfriend lucked out by snatching a great royal blue 60's cardigan.

I also just bought this blazer and I am in love with it. I've been looking for a new blazer for both work and going out and was so excited when I saw this at Marshalls. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Happy Monday! xo

Shoeville

This fall brings us a lot of different and exciting trends for accessories, including menswear inspired, studs, gems and jewels, velvet, zippers, and tweed. These are a few of my favorite styles to look forward to, and I just spent the past few hours trying to find wallet friendly versions of my most desired shoes! Although, with the Sam Edelman Dara Riding boots being around $300, they may be a splurge item that is actually plausible (I heart them!).

One thing that is for sure this season, go big or go home. These styles are some of the more muted versions of what the designers have brought us, but they are more versatile and will be on point even after this season's trends start to fade. If you a bold fashionista (and let's be honest, we all have a little diva inside us), you need to have at least one crazy, loud, flamboyant accessory- be it a huge studded bag, some out of this world shoes, metallic leather leggings, or velvet gloves- let your personality shine through something a little avant garde!

Happy Tuesday!
